Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory in Daytona Beach, FL
Profiled in many travel magazines and touted as one of the “Best Food Finds” for several years in a row by Southern Living Magazine, Daytona Beach’s Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory is a must-see for any avid chocolate lover. An area fixture since 1925, the company was founded by two women – Riddell Angell and Cora Phelps – both snowbirds from Michigan who used to winter in Daytona Beach. The women were immediately lauded for their excellent tasting chocolates and their great ingenuity since they were able to make and maintain good chocolate in Florida in an era before air conditioning!
Today, tens of thousands of locals and tourists visit the Angell and Phelps shop on
South Beach Street each year to sample these homemade goodies and take advantage of the free factory tours offered there. The folks at the shop offer about six tours per day every Monday through Friday, and the trek through the candy-making process gives guests of all ages an opportunity to see the love and care that goes into the making of these creamy confections. (There are no tours on Saturday or Sunday though the store is open on Saturday.) The tours last about 30 minutes and guests will be treated to some history about chocolate and about the Angell and Phelps store in particular, and will explore the chocolate-making that takes place on site via large cottage windows that provide an up-close look at the process. At the end, visitors will be treated to a variety of free samples, which is often people's favorite part of the tour!
In the retail section of the facility, visitors can purchase delicious boxed chocolates in a plethora of varieties including caramels, creams, jellies, nuts, and more. Also offered at the store is Angell and Phelps’ signature fudge, which is also available in a variety of unique flavors including mint swirl, rocky road, orange crème, chewy praline, and several others. The candy makers at the company also craft unique molded chocolates for a variety of occasions, including holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
In addition, Angell and Phelps offers specially-boxed wedding chocolates suitable for table favors, and chocolate greeting cards or roses for anniversaries, birthdays, or other landmark occasions. Other specialties include sugar free candy, chocolate covered pretzels, nonpareils, peanut and pecan brittle, and chocolate covered blueberries, cherries, raisins, nuts, and gummy bears. Corporate gifts with custom imprints are also available as are specially-designed gift baskets for suitable for various occasions featuring Angell and Phelps chocolate items of your choice.
